Yogurt!

One of my favorite things to eat is oatmeal pancakes, they are soooo yummy! They require buttermilk to make and I never seem to have enough buttermilk when I want it. I read once upon a time how to make buttermilk at home and remember it being quite simple. So two nights ago I "started" my buttermilk! :) I poured 7 cups of whole milk and 1 cup cultured buttermilk into a clean two quart container and let is sit at room temperature for 24 hours. Once I opened it up and gave it a stir, what I found was thicker than buttermilk. It was YOGURT! Feeling slighty frustrated at first, I figured I'd do some reasearching via google to see what I could do with this thick glop. This morning I decided to add a little sugar and vanilla and it was DELICIOUS! I will make it again and soon. :D

Oh! Cool! You know that you can make a buttermilk substitute with vinegar or lemon juice? I think its like a tsp per cup or something, you let it sit for 5min or so and you have buttermilk?!
